A beautiful and highly collectible Sampo glass bird designed by renowned Finnish designer Oiva Toikka, produced at the legendary Nuutajärvi glass factory in Finland.
This striking medium-sized Sampo bird is made in deep, luminous cobalt/royal blue glass, with an exceptionally detailed layered feather pattern. The clear glass head and beak contrast beautifully with the rich blue body, while the sculptural tail gives the bird its characteristic elegant silhouette.
The bird was created as a special company bird for Sampo Oy, a Finnish insurance company. Sampo birds were produced in several sizes, making this approximately 12.5 cm example the medium-sized version. Comparable references identify the model as dating to 1988.
