About the design

Kuura is the Finnish word for frost or hoarfrost. The name is especially evocative for this textured glass design, whose delicate, crystalline surface brings to mind frost patterns forming on a cold winter morning. While the name strongly suggests this wintery association, I have not found a reliable source confirming that frost was the documented inspiration for the design.

The Kuura serving dish is a characteristic example of Finnish pressed glass from the 1970s, designed by Pia Kauppi-Lehtinen for Humppilan Lasi. Contemporary vintage listings identify the piece as a brown Kuura serving dish from the 1970s.

Display & use

A beautiful statement piece for serving, entertaining, or displaying as Finnish vintage art glass. Its sculptural textured surface also makes it striking as a decorative centerpiece.
