A striking piece of authentic Finnish vintage glass design, this Meri Lasi Aslak glass candle holder / lantern is inspired by the traditional northern Finnish kota and the landscapes and wildlife of Lapland.
The substantial clear glass body has a distinctive rough, ice-like textured surface, with relief details depicting northern nature and reindeer. The heavy handmade glass creates beautiful reflections when illuminated by candlelight, making this both a functional candle lantern and a sculptural decorative object.
The piece is marked with the original MERI LASI – HAND MADE IN FINLAND mark, confirming its Finnish origin. It comes with its original round wooden base and metal candle holder/stand, as shown in the photographs.
Merilasi Oy was a Finnish glass manufacturer known for clear glass objects made using largely hand-based production methods. Comparable Merilasi Pikku Aslak examples are described by Finnish vintage dealers as Finnish handmade glass with a wooden base and metal candle holder. The clear glass features the original engraved/etched Finnish Christmas greeting “Lämmintä Joulua”, meaning “Warm Christmas” or “Warm Christmas wishes.” The inscription is integrated into the glass and adds a charming seasonal character to this vintage Finnish piece.
