Vintage Kalevala Koru SALT-Sydän bronze brooch, designed by Germund Paaer. Originally designed in the 1940s, the heart-shaped jewellery became known as the SALT-Sydän following the 1972 SALT negotiations in Helsinki.

Peace in the world begins in people's hearts. In 1972, Helsinki hosted the SALT negotiations (Strategic Arms Limitation Talks). The spouses of the heads of state participating in the negotiations visited the Kalevala Koru factory in Helsinki's Pitäjänmäki district. As a commemorative gift, they received a heart-shaped piece designed by artist Germund Paaer in the 1940s.

The original name of the design was “Asumaniemen muorin plikkuuden aikainen solki Kihniöstä” (A Brooch from Kihniö, from Asumaniemi’s Old Woman’s Girlhood). Following the delegation's visit, the piece became known as SALT-sydän (“SALT Heart”).
