A beautiful vintage Finnish Humalasalkoja ryijy, designed by Aksel Wilhelm Raitio (A. W. Raitio) and manufactured as part of the Neovius ryijy collection.
The design, Humalasalkoja (“Hop Poles”), features a richly textured, high-pile surface in earthy shades of dark brown, warm brown, beige, muted green, coral, pink, cream and touches of orange. The composition is framed by intricate geometric and floral-inspired borders, with a structured central field and decorative hop-pole-inspired motifs.
The thick, tactile pile gives this ryijy a particularly beautiful three-dimensional appearance. The close-up photographs show the individual wool loops and richly layered colors, making it an excellent example of traditional Finnish ryijy craftsmanship.
The lower edge is finished with long, natural-colored fringe.
This is a wonderful statement piece for a Scandinavian, Nordic, mid-century, rustic or vintage interior. Its warm, muted palette works particularly well with natural wood, neutral interiors and other vintage Finnish design pieces.
