Beautiful vintage Finnish täkänä wall textile designed by renowned Finnish textile designer Maija Kolsi-Mäkelä.
The textile is woven as a double-sided täkänä, allowing the colour arrangement to be reversed: one side has a predominantly red ground with white motifs, while the reverse presents the contrasting white ground with red motifs.
Maija Kolsi-Mäkelä (1911–1982) was one of Finland's significant täkänä designers. She worked for Helmi Vuorelma Oy and designed numerous popular täkänä patterns from the 1930s onward. The Finnish Craft Museum documents her work extensively and describes her designs as including stylised nature subjects such as birds, plants and other natural motifs.
The textile has a particularly attractive Scandinavian vintage character, making it suitable as a statement piece in a Nordic, Scandinavian Modern, mid-century or eclectic interior.
